Another question

at what point is Marquis Cooper removed from the roster? Shouldn't he be moved to reserve with "Did Not report" once the season starts?RF23 (talk) 06:37, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Sources/Edit Warring

Can we agree on whether the Raiders' official team website constitutes a reliable source as to who is actually employed by the team? Somebody keeps reverting edits, insisting that Pro Football Weekly is somehow more accurate than Raiders.com and NFL.com. Since both are official league organs and PFW is not, I humbly suggest they would be the sources to get information from. Raider Duck (talk) 04:32, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

You're confusing the matter. Pro Football Weekly is the only place on the internet that posts the official NFL transaction wire. NFL.com does not, so they're irrelevant in this discussion. As far as Raiders.com, keep in mind that is just their webmaster and/or PR department making those edits. PR departments routinely screw things up when players are waived/injured, as in McCluskey's case. Sometimes they report it on their own, unofficial team transaction wire (which is included in media materials, only perpetuating erroneous information) as being IR, or waived, or receiving an injury settlement, but none of those are accurate. Likewise, beat writers aren't a good source either, since they only go off what PR departments provide them. Furthermore, the NFLPA maintains a database of player contracts on their website (login required); McCluskey is still in the database, which would not be the case if he received an injury settlement. (to Raider Duck) It's also important to note that teams can do whatever they want with their websites and PR materials; there's nothing saying they need to be accurate. The Patriots, for instance, routinely remove players from their website and PR materials before they officially receive injury settlements. In fact, with Bret Lockett this season, they announced him as being released (he was waived/injured), removed him from their roster entirely, even though he cleared waivers and immediately went to IR. About a week later he magically re-appeared on their roster and PR materials as being on IR, but was still listed on their website and PR transaction wire as released. So "official league organs" really aren't that, and people employed by the team (i.e. PR) often have motives other than accuracy when publishing these things.
