Names[edit]

  1. Wikipedia does not say to avoid all abbreviations. Please read Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Abbreviations#Widely_used_abbreviations_in_Wikipedia which lists "St. or St" as an abbreviation of "Saint" (See under "Academic degrees, titles and ranks" in the table). Therefore there is nothing wrong in using as St. Thomas Christians.
  1. "Nasrani Mappila" is the correct term since simply "Nasrani" can lead to much confusion to readers from different countries. In many parts of the world, "Nasrani" means any Christian, especially a white (European) Christian. See this, this or this.
  1. Simply "Syrian Christians" can refer to any Christians who follow a Syriac rite. See disambiguation page Syrian Christians. Maronites, Assyrians, etc all are Syrian Christians. There it should be either "Malabar Syrian Christians" or "Syrian Christians of Kerala". "Malankara" is also an option.

As I said on my talk page, the abbreviation is unnecessary. "'Saint' vs 'St' or 'St.' in placenames should depend upon the official usage" and "Abbreviations should be written in the same fashion each time they are used within the same page". As the main article and its forks use Saint Thomas Christians, so should this.
Readers will expect that an area titled "alternate names" on the Saint Thomas Christians template will include, well, the alternate names for that that group, not hyperdisambiguated Wiki-speak forms that are barely used. As I explained, two of the previous entries, "Malabar Syrians" and "Thomasines" are rarely if ever used. "Nasrani Mappila" is used but much less frequently than just "Nasrani". "Syrian Christians" and to a much lesser extent "Nasrani" may be confusing in other contexts, but in the Indian context in which this template in embedded, they only ever refer to the Saint Thomas Christians.--Cúchullain t/c 12:59, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Size[edit]

Is there anything that can be done to reduce the size of this template? It swamps many pages - eg: Varghese Payyappilly Palakkappilly - thus forcing use of galleries as a means of showing article-related images. - Sitush (talk) 14:42, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Prominent persons[edit]

There must be some criteria for Prominent persons in this template. Example, Varghese Payyappilly Palakkappilly is a servant of God. There are around more than 10 people in Kerala churches which has been declared as Servant of God. I don't think he is more prominent than Saint Alphonso or Chavara achan. At least put the list in an alphabetical order. I did that in last night. But somebody changed it according his personal criteria. It is better to delete that portion of Prominent persons because we in Kerala thinks that local priest in our parish is also a prominent person. 115.248.108.57 (talk) 08:56, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rightly said. Here we need to include the persons who are famous across different St.Thomas churches. Otherwise this template will be cluttered. -122.171.57.217 (talk) 02:06, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

@Kokkarani: What are you doing? Why are you reverting my edits without discussion? I clearly explained my reasons in the edit summary and you should be following WP:BRD instead of making reverts. Vanjagenije (talk) 21:38, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Change is the law of nature. Wikipedia is not for a person, but for the public. Continuous improvement is the policy.Your edits are out dated or or over ruled by better edits. So please understand and accept edits by other people who come up with better ideas.ThanksMandrake_the_Magician (talk) 21:43, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Kokkarani: I have no idea what you are talking about. I wrote that adding thumbnails to infoboxes runs contrary to WP:INFOBOXIMAGE. I also wrote that your adding of Mar Thoma I two times to the same infobox is needless duplication. Instead of commenting that, you just reverted me, and now you offer some generic comment. Please, discuss the issue or revert your edits. Vanjagenije (talk) 21:46, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Thanks for your good attempt in pointing out the mistakes and correcting it. Your suggestions are accepted and executed.Mandrake_the_Magician (talk) 00:16, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
